• Inspiration for the Work: In an interview, Junji Ito admitted that the entire story came about because he figured sharks weren't very scary if you never went into the water, but it would really suck if they had legs. So he wrote a story where sharks have legs.
• Referenced by...: Mortasheen has two Mons based on the manga. The "Junji," which is a fish-headed walker that weaponizes its own decay, and its improved version, the "Gashunk," which adds some big teeth to the mix.
