Trivia / Guts & Blackpowder

Go To

  • Creator-Driven Successor: The developers of this game also worked on a game called Left 2 Die, a faithful recreation of Left 4 Dead in Roblox, but abandoned it due its unoriginality and being too ambitious. Guts & Blackpowder is considered by them to be a Spiritual Successor to Left 2 Die.
  • Creator Backlash: Many of the developers [1] regret adding the Soldats de ma Vieille Garde badge to the game. Despite being intended as a passive badge/reward for sufficiently skilled players, many people treated it as a brutal grind they must slog themselves through, obsessing over the wave requirement.
  • Executive Meddling: Much of the gore throughout the game was removed after a rejection from Roblox staff, under the fear of the game being either deleted or set to 17+.note
  • God Never Said That: There is a very common misconception that non-Christian/Catholic countries are completely screwed. Their only disadvantage would be not having priests or chaplains to provide support. Similarly, there is another common belief that holy places, like Vatican City, would be safe havens, despite the Blight still having a 100% mortality rate regardless of blessings, and being immune to reanimation doesn't prevent you from being torn to shreds by the horde.
  • Inspiration for the Work: The original idea of Guts & Blackpowder came when a developer added muskets to Left 2 Die, the project they used to work on. There, they came up with the idea of four sterotypical Britishmen going through a zombie apocalypse armed with Napoleonic weapons. From there, Guts & Blackpowder was born.
  • Word of God:
    • The developers revealed the names of the NPCs that helped you in most objective maps. They're Jacob, Jean, and Barry.
    • According to a developer, most European nations only learnt of the supernatural threat after the events of Leipzig. All international conflicts ceased afterwards.
    • Most pieces of lore are taken from statements from developers in the game's community server.
  • Word of Saint Paul: Tom, the voice actor of the unnamed Prussian officer attending to Blücher, names him Moritz Blumenwald.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Vardohus Fortress had an earlier version, where it was much larger. It was quickly replaced with the version we have today. It also contained a Frostbite mechanic which slowed down movement and swing speed while outside, which was brought back with heavy alterations with the release of Berezina.
    • Jacob was originally meant to survive the gate explosion. It was changed so that he blew up alongside it since the animator animating him was too tired to extend the animation further.
    • A White House map was in progress, but was cancelled.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: Soon after the Catacombs update, votekicking was removed. This was because many players abused the mechanic to kick anyone who triggered a map's finale "too quickly". The release of Catacombes de Paris, a map containing a finale that can be triggered easily by anyone who doesn't know better, and was extremely difficult near its release, massively worsened the issue.
Even now, punishing people who triggered the map finale via votekilling is still very common behavior, despite the note placed in the vote menu detailing that triggering finales doesn't count as griefing.
