Trivia / Gravity Falls S2 E1 "Scary-oke"

Go To

  • Blooper: For most of the scene where the Pines family defeat the zombies by singing karaoke, Stan is not wearing his red hat. It inexplicably appears in one shot towards the end of the scene, when Stan yells "Deal with it, zombie idiots!", and disappears again in the next shot. At the very start of the next scene, Stan is putting the hat on.
  • Troubled Production: Rob Renzetti called this episode the most stressful episode since the pilot, with Alex Hirsch adding "This is the least fun I've ever had writing the show." Writer and Creative Director Michael Rianda had left after completing Season 1, since it had been such an exhausting process. Additionally, the staff now had a bunch of expectations from the fandom to live up to, while Season 1 was already scripted by the time the first episode aired.
  • What Could Have Been: There were discussions amongst the writers whether to reveal the purpose of Grunkle Stan's portal as early as this episode, or as late in the season as possible, since many fans had already correctly guessed as early as "Carpet Diem".
    • The original direction for Dipper is Season 2 was for him to want to become a government agent, which would possibly pull him away from Mabel. As the writers were reaching the second half of the season, they realized it would be more powerful if the offer came from Ford, which was eventually used in "Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future".
    • Stan was originally not going to return the Journal to Dipper, resulting in a more intense fight between them. But because they were already fighting over the government agents, it was changed to Stan making copies of the Journal and simply handing it back to Dipper.
    • In addition to the above, there were plans for the episode to begin with a news report regarding the events of "Gideon Rises" and the Mystery Shack residents advertising the Scary-oke party on the news report, but was scrapped in favor of the event being advertised in the Shack's gift shop.
  • Word of God: Agent Trigger is a caricature of series writer Jeff Rowe.
