Trivia / Grange Hill

  • Banned Episode: A first season episode where Tucker and Benny throw benches into a swimming pool wasn't repeated at the time due to complaints from parents. When a full rerun of the early years began fifteen years later the controversy was long forgotten and the episode included once more.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Only the first few series have been released on DVD. A lot of people have uploaded their VHS copies of 1980s episodes to YouTube and The BBC doesn't seem to mind.
    • This is slowly being remedied by a company called Eureka Entertainment, who as of October 2020 will have released series 1-10, with the show's two Christmas specials included on the series 7&8 and series 9&10 box sets respectively. There are only another 21 series to go...
      • The show is also slowly being released on BritBox with the first 23 series now up. The 1985 Christmas Special is also there but arrived ages after the adjacent series (8&9). However the 1981 Christmas Special is not present.
  • Making Use of the Twin: Natalie Stevens was played by Julie Buckfield, whose twin sister Clare was also an actress. Two years after Natalie first appeared the show saw the arrival of her previously unmentioned twin sister Natasha, who had gone with their father in their parents' separation. The sisters have spent the last few years in very different circumstances which leads to confusion and multiple conflicts to the point where their younger sister Becky declares they're as bad as each other.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Comedian Kevin Bishop’s big break came in 1994 when he was cast in the role of Sam Spalding. Bishop was in two series yet disappeared mysteriously during his second. As he put it: “I was so unruly that they expelled me from a fictional school.”
  • Working Title: The series was originally to have been called Grange Park, which would go on to be used as the name of the school in Phil Redmond's other series Brookside.
