• The Other Marty: Kathleen Rose Perkins was cast as Beth and filmed the entire pilot before Beth was recast.
• Serendipity Writes the Plot: As noted below, the reason we have the DNA evidence plot line with Beth in Season Two is because Beth's actress chose, entirely by chance, to take the pen cap off with her mouth. The writers decided to run with it when seeing the story line her accidental mistake gave them.
• Throw It In!: Christina Hendricks (not Beth!) decided to pull off a pen cap with her mouth in the last episode of Season One, providing a trace of DNA evidence that becomes very relevant in Season Two.
• Queer Character, Queer Actor: Ben comes out to Annie as transgender in Season 2. His actor, Isaiah Stannard, is also transgender. Ben was originally conceived as a cisgender boy. After an FTM actor was cast, "Sadie" was reverse-engineered to tell a story of self-realization and coming out.
• Romance on the Set: Christina Hendricks met her fiance George Bianchini, who was working as a camera operator for the show. The two of them became engaged in March 2023.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Kathleen Rose Perkins was originally cast as Beth before dropping out and being recast by Christina Hendricks. They even filmed the pilot episode with her before making the sudden change and re-doing the episode.
  • Also, Annie was the one originally planned to become involved with Rio— not Beth. While the writers definitely wanted one of the ladies to hook up with Rio, they felt that the story line was better suited with Annie's more careless character. This was changed when the producers noticed the natural onscreen chemistry between Christina Hendricks (Beth) and Manny Montana (Rio). When they also read online comments about how much fans favored the Beth and Rio pairing, they were all the more encouraged to pursue a romantic story line between Beth and Rio instead.
