• Anonymous Author: "Gemmalie" was published anonymously and the authors' identities remain unknown to this day. Courtesy of the novelette's afterword, it is known there's more than one author and that those involved were part of the same society, most likely situated in Paris.
• Write What You Know: "Gemmalie" takes place during autumn. It is late September when the novelette begins and one of novelette's closing lines is "the wind violently dispersed the last leaves of autumn". As per the afterword, "Gemmalie" was put to paper during a few autumn evenings.
