Trivia / Flikken

Go To

  • Actor Leaves, Character Dies: This was done to both Sofie and Nick, after their respective actors left the series.
  • Banned Episode: Several of these have cropped up in recent years.
    • Both the episodes "De Gentse Feesten" and "De Vikings" have been removed from rotation, due to actor Guy van Sande playing a prominent role in them (van Sande has been convicted for possession and distribution of child pornography). The removal of both episodes has left noticable plotholes in the series, as the former featured the kidnapping of Britt's daughter Dorien (which is referenced in later episodes), while the latter contained the build-up to the discovery of a new victim of the season 6 serial killings (which now comes out of nowhere).
    • In a similar vein, the episode "Wapenbezit" has been removed for featuring Walter Quartier (who has been convicted for incestuous sexual assault on his daughters). This removal also caused a significant plothole, as it was the episode where Nico, Sel's protégé, was (unwittingly) shot dead by Ben during a robbery-gone-wrong.
    • The two-parter "Gratuit Geweld" has also been removed from rotation, most likely due to the excessively violent opening scenes of both the first and second episode (which were referenced throughout). As most re-runs are broadcasted in the late afternoon, this is somewhat understandable. Its removal does introduce some plotholes in the B-storylines of Pasmans, Emma, Cat and John, as some of their subplots were started or resolved in those episodes.
  • Hide Your Pregnancy:
    • Averted with Joke Devynck, the actress who played Tony, whose pregnancy was written into the series.
    • Played straight with Ann Ceurvels, whose character, Sofie Beeckman, died before she was visibly pregnant.
  • Stunt Casting: This was done rather intentionally with famous Dutch folk and protest singer Boudewijn de Groot, who played Robert Nieuwman in season 6. This came to be predominantly due to the involvement of Dutch broadcaster TROS, who partially sponsored the sixth season of Flikken and, hence, introduced his character for some (high profile) Dutch representation. This also (most likely) led to his character becoming a major part of the team from the get-go, as well as him forming a team with Britt (which nearly ended in a romantic relation between the two).
