- Development Gag: Most times Diamond is shown with flowers, they are marigolds, which is probably a reference to what she would have ended up changing her name to in an earlier version of the story.
- What Could Have Been: When Flight was in the earliest planning stages, it was intended to be a prequel to an unreleased story about Diamond's daughter, and have a completely different plot:
- Diamond was going to be more of a Shrinking Violet than the friendly, energetic character we see in the comic.
- Sapphire was also going to be more spoiled and meaner.
- Lilac wasn't going to be related to Citrine or get anyone as a mate.
- One of the main plot points was going to be Sapphire finding out that Diamond was visiting a commoner and ordering Diamond to stop, to which Diamond replies:
- and taking off her necklace and dropping it on the ground. Sapphire then exiles Diamond from the palace and forces her to change her name to a commoner's name. She changes her name to Marigold and then becomes mates with Dusk, the commoner she'd been seeing.
- Diamond and Sapphire were actually going to end up having children at the end of the story, but Diamond would have begged Sapphire to take care of her's because she still would have left to go look for two cats: Lilac, who would have gone missing after Garnet and Citrine died and Dusk, who would have disappeared while she was pregnant.
