Trivia / Everybody Loves a Happy Ending

Go To

  • Better Export for You: The European release of the album (which came out a year after the US release) included "Pullin' a Cloud" and "Out of Control" as bonus tracks.
  • Denial of Digital Distribution: Despite being owned in the US by the same parent company as the band's Mercury Records albums, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending was conspicuously absent from streaming services worldwide until 2020, when the band signed with the management company Full Stop. Before then, the only part of the album to be officially available on a streaming platform was the music video for "Closest Thing to Heaven", which Ear Music uploaded in 2012.
  • Sequel Gap: The album ended a nine-year hiatus since the release of the previous Tears for Fears album, Raoul and the Kings of Spain.
  • Short Run in Peru: The album was released in the US a full year before it came out in the UK and Europe.
  • What Could Have Been: The band initially signed with Arista Records to release the album following talks with label head LA Reid, and Arista even handed out promo copies to radio stations. However, Arista fired Reid after their parent company, BMG, merged with Sony Music (ironically the parent company for Epic Records, Tears for Fears' previous label), motivating the band to leave with him. In the wake of this, they signed a new deal with New Door Records in the US and Gut Records in the UK. This in turn would lead to Tears for Fears fully joining New Door's parent company, Universal Music Group (who also own the band's original label, Mercury Records), for later material.
