Trivia / Enigmatis

Go To

  • Creator In-Joke: In Ghosts of Maple Creek, Hamilton offers the detective some Polish sausage, for absolutely no discernible reason. Artifex Mundi, the game's developer, is based in Poland.
  • Canon Discontinuity: The series can't seem to decide if the last surviving Reaper is called The Priest or The Preacher. It has no real impact on the plot either way, but it's noticeable.
  • Genius Bonus:
    • The series title falls into this. At first glance, Enigmatis seems like a nonsense word, or possibly a Portmantitle of enigma and something else. In fact, enigmatis is the genitive singular form of the word enigma. This means that the title of each game basically starts with "The enigma of..."
    • In The Mists of Ravenwood, when the detective asks him how he knows so much, the prisoner in the underground cell replies, "Perennial sophia, detective." This is an altered form of the phrase sophia perennis, meaning "absolute truth," which is a core concept of perennial philosophy. He then adds that he's very old, meaning that he's learned everything he's telling the detective over many years of searching for truth. It's also a very subtle clue as to his identity.
  • Limited Special Collector's Ultimate Edition: Each of the games is available (at least on some platforms) in a vanilla edition and also one of these. The collector's editions add a bonus chapter of extra gameplay, as well as features like concept art.
