Trivia / Elliott Smith

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: He was originally in an indie rock band called Heatmiser, who broke up just after he became recognized as a solo artist. Elliott Smith eventually became a household name in the world of independent music. Heatmiser? Not so much.
  • Died During Production: Smith died before the release of his sixth album From a Basement on the Hill, which was initially planned as a double album.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Neil Gust, the other guitarist/lead vocalist in Heatmiser, last spoke with Smith in 2002, and Smith had expressed interest in making another Heatmiser album. As it stands, the closest thing to a Heatmiser reunion was "Who's Behind The Door?", a song by Gust's project No. 2 that featured Smith on backing vocals and surfaced on a 2011 homelessness benefit album called Live From Nowhere Near You Vol. 2.
    • Smith was going to take on the Pop-Star Composer role for the film Thumbsucker. In the end, the three recordings he completed were used in the final product, with the rest of the soundtrack provided by The Polyphonic Spree.
