• Actor Allusion: Probably coincidental, but a few decades before this series Alec Baldwin had played a very Duntsch-like role in the film Malice.
• Ability over Appearance: None of the three leads bear a close resemblance to the people they portrayed^note for instance, Alec Baldwin is clean shaven and has a full head of hair while the real Robert Henderson is bearded and bald and the real Randall Kirby has blonde hair and doesn't wear glasses while Christian Slater has black/greying hair and wears his famous black-rimmed spectacles throughout, but were selected for the strength of their performances.
• Approval of God: The real Randall Kirby enjoyed and approved of both the series and Christian Slater's portrayal of him, feeling that he and his colleagues were portrayed accurately.
• Dyeing for Your Art: AnnaSophia Robb had to learn how to play basketball for her role and cheerfully admits that her form doesn't look very good despite all the effort she put in.
• Fake American: The British Dominic Burgess and Canadian Joshua Jackson play Americans.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Jamie Dornan was originally cast as Christopher Dunstch while Chris Sullivan was cast as Jerry Summers. They were replaced by Joshua Jackson and Dominic Burgess, respectively.
  • Michelle Shughart was originally written as a gamer until showrunner Patrick Macmanus asked the real Shughart what she liked to do to unwind and learned that she's an avid basketball player.
  • Christian Slater had been scheduled to meet with the real Randall Kirby and shadow him in preparation for the role, but the COVID pandemic put an end to those plans and resulted in Slater putting more of an original spin to the character rather than trying to mimic the real Kirby^note Slater says that it was probably for the better as he might have become sidetracked trying to replicate Kirby's appearance, such as his striking blue eyes.
