  • Acting for Two: Patrick Troughton made a guest appearance in "In the Dark" playing both a dying man and his son.
  • Actor Leaves, Character Dies: Robert Powell decided to leave the series and not to return in season two, so it was decided that Tobias Wren was to be killed off by being in an explosion in the season one finale, "Survival Code".
  • Banned Episode: A third-series episode called "Sex and Violence" was never aired due to its unflattering caricatures of Moral Guardians such as Mary Whitehouse. It ironically became one of the few episodes The BBC didn't erase, although it was not legally made available until the 2016 DVD release of all surviving episodes.
  • Fake Scot: Patrick Troughton in "In the Dark".
  • Missing Episode: The series suffered from the BBC's lack of a proper archiving policy until 1978. It was BBC policy before 1978 to wipe master tapes and reuse them for other programmes, hence saving money and storage space. There are five episodes from Season 1, and nine from Season 3, of which there are no known copies in existence.
  • Star-Making Role: Robert Powell as Toby Wren
  • Unfinished Episode: The third season was supposed to end with "The Devil's Demolition", but it was scrapped by the production crew and therefore never made. It is unconfirmed what the story was about, or which cast members were to have been in it.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The original series format proposal had the team quirkily operate out of a deconsecrated Westminster church.
    • Nigel Kneale was offered the chance to write for the series but declined.
