Trivia / Doctor Who S33 E3 "A Town Called Mercy"

  • Awesome, Dear Boy: Ben Browder accepted his role because his children were fans of the series, and he also wanted to do a Western.
  • California Doubling: The Spanish province of Almería, home to many Spaghetti Western movies, doubles for the Wild West.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • We missed having both a Star Wars and a Star Trek actor (who, coincidentally, is also versed in time travel) on screen at the same time... Scott Bakula said at a Star Trek convention that he was approached to play Isaac, and wanted to do the role (he's a fan too), but schedule conflicts forced him to turn the part down.
    • Originally, Rory was in favour of turning Jex over to the Gunslinger.
    • Writer Toby Whithouse’s first version saw the Gunslinger killed off halfway through the story, which then focussed on the true villain of the piece, Kahler-Jex.
    • Another early idea was having Kahler-Jex shot by Isaac’s father, causing the Gunslinger to want to take revenge on the town. The Doctor would’ve quelled him with a hologram of a woman named Kahler-San. Despite the Gunslinger knowing she was fake, it convinced him to leave the town in peace. While Steven Moffat liked it, he thought they should keep both antagonists around until the story’s end.
  • Working Title: The Gunslinger and Mercy.
  • You Look Familiar: Garrick Hagon (Abraham) had played Ky in "The Mutants".
