Trivia / Doctor Who S33 E1 "Asylum of the Daleks"

Go To

  • Prop Recycling:
    • Do the levers in the escape pod that seal the doors look familiar? They should — that lever first appeared in "Utopia", as the one the Master pulls to shut down the bunker's defences.
    • The black chair in Oswin's pod previously appeared in the pod Jenny used at the end of "The Doctor's Daughter".
    • And of course, the older Dalek models, as many as the BBC could get their hands on.
    • Though the New Paradigm Daleks on the ship were all new ones created for this episode, a damaged white Supreme can be seen in the Asylum. This is the original prop created for "Victory of the Daleks" before being distressed for use in "The Wedding of River Song", to the point that the eyestalk the Doctor takes from it in that episode is missing here, indicating that they could be the same individual.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Arthur Darvill had grown a beard for the role of Mephistopheles in Doctor Faustus, and Steven Moffat thought of having him keep the beard for Rory to have. During the episode, Amy would have hated the beard so much he would shave it off by the end of the story. The idea was abandoned when it was decided it would be shot well into the season’s filming, along with "The Angels Take Manhattan".
    • Elvis Presley’s music would’ve been played through the episode as a musical motif for Oswin, getting her the nickname of "Blue Suede Shoes" by the Doctor. When the show couldn’t get the rights to Elvis’ music, Bizet's Carmen was used instead.
    • The continuity-patching placement of the Dalek Parliament on "Skaro 2" was cut from the script.
