  • What Could Have Been: Supposedly, the material which became Carrie & Lowell was originally conceived as an Oregon-based entry to Sufjan's long-abandoned Fifty States Project. Both the record itself and several of the songs Suf wrote or released around the same time feature references to the geography and culture of the Beaver State.
