- Inspiration for the Work: "Card games are Serious Business because magic" is, of course, a take on Yu-Gi-Oh!. The author has also stated that the "cursed cards" premise — a Hidden Villain repeatedly possesses the Victim of the Week by planting an Artifact of Doom on them, which the heroes must retrieve and destroy — was inspired by the akumas of Miraculous Ladybug.
- What Could Have Been: The author's notes occasionally mention deleted scenes and ideas, and "Behind the Scenes" in particular is a whole chapter of them.
- Worthless Politician was originally going to have 4500 Bond, as a numerical reference to its Trumplica status, but it was reduced to 3000 for balance.
- There was going to be a similar Evil/Mortal type card as a Take That! against TERFsnote , but this ended up not happening.
- Yuu's patron deity was originally going to be the Christian God, but the author decided that might be insensitive and changed him to an impersonator.
