- Breakaway Pop Hit: "One Tin Soldier" as recorded by Coven on the soundtrack of the film, which would also prove to be a Black Sheep Hit for what was otherwise a Satanic hard rock band. Though the song was originally recorded two years earlier by The Original Caste.
- Fake Mixed Race: The white Tom Laughlin plays Billy Jack whose status as a mixed race Native American is a major part of his character and a running theme in the trilogy.
- Franchise Killer: Billy Jack Goes to Washington, which never got a theatrical release. Laughlin spent the rest of his life trying to make a fifth film, coming closest in 1985 when he managed to film an hour's worth of scenes for The Return of Billy Jack.
- Troubled Production: The Return of Billy Jack had to be put on hold when Laughlin suffered a head injury on set, and by the time he recovered, he no longer had enough money to finish the film.
