Trivia / Ben and Arthur

Go To

  • California Doubling: A Los Angeles park, for a park in Vermont. It doesn't work too well, since Vermont isn't known for its palm trees. Sam Mraovich later admitted to this screw-up, saying that he couldn't find anywhere in Los Angeles that looked like Vermont, and didn't have the time or money to actually film on location in that state, so just decided to film somewhere that at least looked nice.
  • Copiously Credited Creator: Sam Mraovich is credited as having a hand in nearly every aspect of production, including editing, makeup, and even the music.
  • Creator Backlash: While Sam Mraovich admitted in an interview that he was out of his league trying to make a full-length film with No Budget and no real training in writing or making films, and that the end result was terrible from an audiovisual standpoint, he has no regrets about making the film, feels that it contained a valid message (though admitted it was delivered very poorly) and even considers it a Medal of Dishonor that it's spoken of in the same terms as films like The Room (2003).
  • No Budget: The film was made on $40,000.
  • Star-Derailing Role: Granted, he never really had that much of a career to begin with, but Mike Haboush, who co-produced the film and starred as Victor, had bit parts in Galaxy Quest, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, and The West Wing. Nowadays he acts in gay porn under the name of "Mike Bush."
  • Underage Casting: Lampshaded; the guy playing the private investigator looks way too young, which Victor calls him out on. It turns out that he's an intern.
  • What Could Have Been: The character of Victor was originally going to be Victoria, the mother of Arthur.
  • Word of Gay: Victor being a closeted homosexual is never mentioned or even implied in the movie, and the only reason we know he is gay is because Sam Mraovich said so in an interview.
