  • Abandonware: Most of the games from Battlefield 2142 and earlier have become abandonware, due to EA discontinuing support for them in favor of the newer games in the franchise.
  • Fanwork Ban: There used to be a community called Battlelog (not to be confused with EA's official stat tracking page for Battlefield games starting from 3) that succeeded in bringing Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 back online with the SECUROM stripped from the copies. Then they try to bring Battlefield Heroes back online, and thanks to using the copyrighted names, are forced by EA to take down all of their infrastructure. Project Reality, however, survived the take down due to being unaffiliated and not using EA's copyrighted names and terms at all.
  • Newbie Boom: Specific to Australia, a year after the game was released Pizza Hut ran a promotional campaign where in addition to 2 pizzas, a drink and a garlic bread you could also choose one of games Need for Speed: Most Wanted, The Sims 2 or Battlefield 2. A massive amount of people purchased the deal and picked Battlefield 2, leading to a huge uptick in the player count with "Pizza Hut noobs" who had no idea how to play the game. This caused chaos for months until the players picked up the game or those who didn't get it dropped away.
  • What Could Have Been: Early reports for 2 included the Russian army, more people on a server (for a game that already has 64-player servers), and even some reports of fast roping. The MEC in the teaser trailer also more resemble insurgents rather than a professional military. The Russians were eventually added in the Special Forces expansion.
