Trivia / Batang Quiapo

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Besides portraying Tanggol, Coco also appeared in flashback scenes as a young Ramon Montenegro.
  • Character Outlives Actor: Although Jaclyn Jose died on March 2, 2024, her last remaining scenes were shown on the episodes aired after her passing. The scene where Espinas finally gets arrested by Rigor and Mando is done using a body double and archive footage.
  • Dawson Casting: Coco Martin, who was 41 years old at the time, portrays Tanggol, a man in his early 20s.
    • This also applies to Mokang, a 17 year old teenager who has just celebrated her 18th birthday. Her actress, Lovi Poe, was 34 years old at the time of filming.
  • Died During Production: Jaclyn Jose, who played Chief Dolores Espinas, passed away on March 2, 2024, due to a heart attack.
  • Directed by Cast Member: The series is co-directed and produced by Martin himself, under his birth name Rodel Nacianceno.
  • Dueling Works: With Maria Clara at Ibarra, though this has more to do with the time slot than any other similarities; Maria being a time portal fantasy set in the backdrop of Jose Rizal's works and Batang Quiapo a crime drama.
  • Fake Nationality: Almost all of the actors portraying the Red Phoenix Triad leadership aren't actual Chinoys (Filipinos with Chinese descent). The only exception to this is Jeffrey Tam (who portrays Leroy Tiu-Lee).
  • In Memoriam: In the episodes released after Jaclyn Jose's death, a special tribute for her was played before the "Abangan" segment.
  • Production Posse: Quite a number of the series' cast are made up of Ang Probinsyano alumni, which isn't all that surprising.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Coco brought over a number of prominent vloggers as part of the show's cast, most notably dwarf TikToker-turned-actor Renz Joshua "Baby Giant" BaƱa whose role in the show was his first foray into professional acting, as well as former athletes Sugar Ray "Mammoth" Estroso and Mark "Big Mak" Andaya.
  • Real-Life Relative: Father and son duo Lito Lapid and Mark Lapid both have roles on the show, as Primo "Supremo" Medina and Ben, respectively.
    • Similarly, three members of the Medina family all have roles on the show: Pen Medina (as Marsing), Ping Medina (as Edwin), and Karl Medina (as a young version of Noy). The number of Medina family members having roles on the show would later increase as Alex Medina joined the cast to portray a young version of Marcelo Macaraig.
    • Ivana Alawi portrays Bubbles, while her younger sister, Mona, portrays the younger version of the character.
  • Troubled Production: Downplayed example - Coco Martin claimed in an interview that his crew ran into a bit of trouble with Real Life law enforcement who mistook the armored van chase for an actual heist; the cast and crew ended up at a precinct where they explained their situation.
  • What Could Have Been: Basically the whole "Bagong Yugto" trailer. Many events shown in there weren't depicted in the episodes succeeding it. This is because Lovi Poe's sudden exit from the show forced the showmakers to change the plot.
