- Channel Hop: The TV anime adaptation aired on Nippon TV and was animated by Kinema Citrus, while the TV anime adaptation for the prequel manga, Handa-kun, airs on TBS and is animated by Diomedea.
- Children Voicing Children: In the Japanese version, all the child characters are voiced by actual children, which makes them sound much more natural.
- The Other Darrin: In the TV adaptation of the prequel, Handa-kun, some of the characters have new voices (Nobunaga Shimazaki voices Sei Handa, for example) . Averted in the dub, as Barakamon itself was released in the US around the same time as Handa-kun's broadcast dub airing.
- Many locations featured in the series are based on real world locations in the Gotou Islands, such as the Gotou-Fukue Regional Airport, with limited destinations to Nagasaki and Fukuoka, and servicing no direct flights to Tokyo, closely reflecting the remoteness of the community featured in Barakamon.
