• Genius Bonus: "Operation Sudden Death" sounds very bloodthirsty coming from a professional military outfit like EarthForce, but it seems less intimidating if you know that "Sudden Death" is also a phrase describing tie-breakers in sporting events, making the name about as intimidating as "Operation Home Run" while also pretty much summing up the goal of the operation, of bringing a civil war to an end by helping one side over the other.
• Reality Subtext: The Franklins are based very much on Richard Biggs' strained relationship with his own father, who was a colonel in Vietnam. The names of his four sisters are also used as Franklin's.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The role of General Franklin was written for James Earl Jones, who proved to be too expensive.
  • Garibaldi was going to actually sleep with Dodger, but Jerry Doyle was uncomfortable with it as she was played by an old girlfriend and he was now well into a relationship (and later marriage) with his co-star Andrea Thompson.
