Trivia / Anchors Aweigh

  • Crossdressing Voices: Although Jerry the Mouse is clearly supposed to be a male, he was voiced by Sara Berner.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The film was released as a moral booster for the US Navy. While WWII was clearly coming to an end in Europe, it was still raging in the Pacific where the Navy was actively engaged against the Japanese. The opening sequence is clearly designed to make the nation feel good about its naval forces.
  • What Could Have Been: Originally, instead of Jerry Mouse, the character who was going to dance with Gene Kelly was Mickey Mouse. Reportedly, Walt Disney even agreed to loan Mickey out, but big brother Roy said no. Walt Disney Studios was deep in debt after World War II, and they had no business making animation for third parties until they were out of the woods.
