* DuelingShows: With ''WesternAnimation/TheLifeAndTimesOfJuniperLee''. Contary to [[{{Follow The Leader}} popular belief]], this show did not copy off of American Dragon. Both of their respective animation studios finished within a year of each other and neither creator knew of the other's project till they were pretty much on the airwaves. Ironically both shows were subject of Executive Meddling.
** To ''Anime/{{Naruto}}'', as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONtEYSrLZkM this Toonami bumper]] shows.
* ExecutiveMeddling:
** The Korean Dragon was supposed to die in "Homecoming".
** Honestly, that's just the tip of the iceberg. The series creators had to fight tooth and nail for Jake to be allowed to breathe fire at anything that wasn't a fireplace, or fly around without elbowpads and a helmet. Exactly WHERE in the world is turning into a dragon and flying imitable, anyway?
* FakeBrit[=/=]FakeNationality: American actor Adam Wylie's characters, Nigel Thrall and Fred Nerk, are British and Australian respectively.
* TheOtherDarrin: Theme song wise, in the first season it was preformed by the band Mavin. In the second season, The Jonas Brothers.
* ProductionPosse: Many of the writers previously worked on Fillmore. It's no surprise since two of Jake Long's producers (Eddie Guzelian and Matthew Negrete) were also producers on Fillmore.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The last three episodes had their air dates dragged out over several months, and were aired in a different time slot for each one. The series finale was moved to an evening slot against all manner of adult programming, and it got less advertising than ''High School Musical 2'' -- which had already been out for a month and a half.
* TalkingToHimself:
** The Oracle Twins are both voiced by TaraStrong.
** It goes without saying that since Yang Jake is Jake's clone, DanteBasco voices both Yang Jake and the real Jake.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Read the ExecutiveMeddling and ScrewedByTheNetwork entries, and project that kind of treatment across two whole seasons.
** Originally, the plot with the Aztec skulls and Dark Dragon plots were supposed to be based in different seasons, the Aztec Skulls plot taking place in season 2, with the Huntsman plot in season 3, likely explaining the fact that the plots weren't given enough time to develop: There wasn't enough time to properly explain all the plot points because they weren't ''getting'' another season. Other ideas involved a possibly DarkerAndEdgier approach with the finale of the second season, involving [[KilledOffForReal Sun Park being thrown into a volcano]], and also revealing that Jake's Grandma was Chang, both ideas were discarded for being "Too Jetix". Rose was also supposed to stay in New York, but Disney said it was "too confusing" and [[PutOnABus sent her to Hong Kong]]. A ''lot'' of these ideas would probably have helped the show in the long run.
** Fu Dog was originally going to be voiced by Jay Leno.
* TheWikiRule: [[http://adjl.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page American Dragon Jake Long Wiki.]]
* WordOfGod: Steve Loter (Director) said that Rose would have came back to New York after "Hong Kong Longs" had the series continued and that Jake and her would be together.
* WriterRevolt: Some shades of this.
