Trivia / A Walk to Remember

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: The Switchfoot songs on the film's soundtrack were recommended by Mandy Moore, who was a big fan of theirs.
  • The Cast Showoff: It should come as no surprise that Mandy Moore sings several times in the film and performs about a third of the soundtrack.
  • Covered Up:
    • Mandy Moore & Switchfoot's Jonathan Foreman covered New Radicals' "Someday We'll Know" for the film. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who knows it was a cover and not the original.
    • Toploader covered King Harvest's "Dancing in the Moonlight."
  • Creator Cameo: Director Adam Shankman has a cameo in the film as a nurse who wheels Jamie out of the hospital when she's discharged.
  • Creator In-Joke: In the film when Jamie gives Landon her mother's book, she says "don't worry, it's not a Bible". In the book, she actually does give him a Bible.
  • Dawson Casting: Averted with Mandy Moore, who was still underage and couldn't work for more than ten hours a day. Shane West, however, was in his early twenties.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Mandy Moore dyed her hair brown for this film which she would later keep decades later.
  • Hey, It's That Place!: Many of the sets were from Dawson's Creek, which though set in Massachusetts, was filmed in North Carolina, where this film actually does take place (though filming site Wilmington is about 100 miles away from story site Beaufort - they're both on the Outer Banks, though).
  • Romance on the Set: lead stars Shane West and Mandy Moore were reportedly crushing on one another during filming of the movie.
  • Star-Making Role: Although Mandy Moore was reasonably known for her music career, this became her breakout role as far as acting goes.
  • What Could Have Been: Jessica Simpson was considered for the role of Jamie Sullivan.
  • Write What You Know: Jamie is based on Nicholas Sparks's own sister Danielle, who the movie is dedicated to.
