2,000 years before Shiren 3

  • Jofuku, a Taoist skilled in fortune-telling and shamanist ways, leads his people across the sea to the land of Japan. After founding Otsutsuki Village at the base of Hourai Mountain, he climbs the mountain and makes a deal with Izanami; in return, she gives him the Ochimizu and transforms him into a dragon. He is presumed to have died there, and over time he is assumed to have become a crane god watching over Otsutsuki Village.

1,000 years before Shiren 6

  • Kokatsu, God of Sunlight defeats Suiryu, God of Rainstorms after a fierce battle. The latter spends the next 1,000 years in the sea to regain her strength, during which Serpentcoil Island forms over her body.

1,000 years before Shiren 3

  • Jofuku finds the blood of Izana in Shiren's ancestor and Kaguya. After he puts Kaguya to sleep in the Karakuri Palace, he gives Shiren's ancestor the Key of Kudan and implants in him the hope that he can meet Kaguya again in 1,000 years.
  • Shiren's ancestor quits the shogunate and goes where the wind takes him. His bloodline survives the next 1,000 years.

3 years before Shiren is born

  • Asuka is born. (In Shiren 3, Asuka tells Koppa she's 24; this makes her three years older than Shiren, who is 21 in that game.)

Shiren, 0 years old

  • Shiren is born to Gimensha and his wife, the latter of whom is also Sensei's sister. (In Shiren 3, Gimensha entrusts his wife and Shiren to her brother, Sensei.)

Unknown time

  • Shiren befriends someone, who later dies. Honoring their dying wish, he wears their kasa and becomes a Wanderer. (In the intro to Shiren 1, Koppa says Shiren's been traveling in memory of his friend. Koppa also tells a villager in Canyon Hamlet that Shiren's kasa was a gift from that friend.)
  • Shiren befriends Koppa. (At the start of Shiren 2, Shiren and Koppa are already traveling together.)

Shiren, 8 years old

  • Gimensha entrusts his wife, their son Shiren, and the Key of Kudan to Sensei, then disappears. (In Shiren 3, Sensei tells Shiren, Asuka, and Koppa about his last meeting with Gimensha, which was 13 years ago.)

Shiren, 10 years old

  • The events of Shiren 2 occur.

Over 10 years before Shiren 3

  • Sensei leaves his sister and Shiren behind after learning that Gimensha would never return. (In the opening of Shiren 3, Koppa mentions that Shiren hadn't seen Sensei in over 10 years when they ran into him at the capital. Sensei later tells them and Asuka why he vanished back then.)

Shiren, 11 years old

  • The events of Asuka Arrives! occur.

Shiren, 18 years old

  • Soon after setting off to look into the legend of the Golden Condor atop a city of gold at the top of Table Mountain, Koppa, a talking weasel, meets Shiren, a Wanderer who travels in memory of his friend. They decide to travel together.
  • Six months later, the events of the first game and BS Shiren occur.
