- Crawford leaves in August. David Cassidy becomes the star in November.
- A storyline is added involving Cassidy as a busboy chosen to find his lost imagination.
- The EFX Master is reduced to holographic head played by James Earl Jones.
- Cassidy is made King Arthur instead of Merlin.
- "Intergalactic Circus of Wonders" is rewritten.
- The Flying Kaganovitch trapeze troupe replaces Barnum's stand-up act.
- "Tonight" is removed along with all related musical motifs.
- "Counting Up to Twenty" is replaced by "River in Time"
- "Finale" is replaced by "Let it Shine".
1997
- The Cassidy soundtrack is released.
1999
- David Cassidy leaves EFX in January and Tommy Tune becomes headliner.
- The Tune soundtrack is released.
- The Cassidy storyline is replaced by a motif centered around dreams.
- The opening song is rewritten as "EFX (Bring on the Dream)".
- "The Magic That Surrounds You" is replaced by "When You Believe"
- Tune is made Merlin with a younger version of Tune as King Arthur.
- "Greatest Showman in the Universe" precedes "Circus of Wonders".
- "Eclipse" inserted between the Barnum and Houdini segments.
- "Tonight" is re-inserted.
- "River in Time" features vocals by Ernest Chambers and Ken Young.
- The Cassidy finale dance is replaced by two new songs. Let it Shine remains.
2000
- Tommy Tune leaves EFX.
2001
- Rick Springfield becomes star the of EFX.
- EFX is renamed EFX Alive!.
- The Tune storyline is removed.
- The characters of the Masters of Magic, Spirits, Laughter and Time are removed.
- Rick Springfield becomes the EFX Master and replaces James Earl Jones on the holographic head.
- "EFX (Bring on the Dream)" is replaced by "Rhythm of the Beat"
- "The Magic That Surrounds You" is re-inserted.
- The Flying Kaganovitch is replaced by an acrobatic act involving a giant sphere.
- Springfield's song "Human Touch" is added to the Barnum segment.
- "Eclipse" is removed.
- "Tonight" is replaced by "Forever"
- "River in Time" features vocals by Rick Springfield.
- The Cassidy finale dance is re-inserted.
2003
- EFX Alive! closes on January 1st.
