Tear Jerker / Sisters

• Teddy's daughter Cat is brutally raped and almost battered to death - to the point that she's in a coma for a while. She later takes her assailant to court but he's judged not guilty - only to be shot dead by another woman who also claims to have been raped by him. During all this drama, Teddy goes into a downward spiral herself - getting an illegal gun; falling off the bandwagon as a former alcoholic.
  • She tearfully confesses to one of the other sisters that she redressed Cat after finding her because, "I didn't want them (the paramedics) to see her like that."
• The police detective (played by a then unknown George Clooney) who investigated the above-mentioned rape of Teddy's daughter, later became Teddy's husband and they become very Happily Married. But then he dies by way of a bomb placed by criminals in his car, causing Teddy to become blind for a while, interact with his spirit, and later accidentally break the urn containing his ashes in a fit of anger.
• Frankie and her husband Mitch (formerly Frankie's sister Teddy's husband) try to get pregnant, which they can't, but eventually have a son by way of her sister Georgie doing a surrogate pregnancy for them. Once Mitch and Frankie have this much-coveted child, their marriage falls apart, they divorce, and Frankie emigrates to Japan with the son. All of which Georgie, who went through a surrogate pregnancy for her sister, finds pretty hard to swallow.
• The four sisters' mother, Bea, became widowed (of the four sister's father) at the very beginning of the series but soon found love with Truman again - a Cool Old Guy who was also much beloved by her daughters. Then poor Truman turned out to have Alzheimer's, which he first tried to hide from Bea but soon couldn't hide anymore, and by halfway the series, he got a more or less assisted suicide, and Bea was widowed a second time having had only a short time with this beloved second husband.
  • And also as a result, her daughters lost their step-dad to death, just like their biological dad.
• Georgie's two sons... Her youngest, Evan, develops leukemia early in the series. He eventually survives this well, but during this, her older son, Trevor, lets his parents know he feels pretty neglected seeing how much his sick younger brother takes attention and time from his parents. By the time it's clear Evan has recovered from his leukemia, Trevor hits rock-bottom - he becomes a drug addict, homeless, and steals from people. During most of the late seasons, he has gone missing and Georgie and John don't have any idea where he is, or if he even still is alive.
