Tear Jerker / Janelle Monáe

Go To

  • Her genuine outburst of tearful emotion while lipsyncing to Cold War.
  • Her speech while receiving the Young, Gifted and Black award.
  • "57821" is particularly heartbreaking:
Anthony Greendown, your Cindy Mayweather will always be waiting for you.
  • The scene of Jane 57821 taking "The Walk" meant to erase the last of her memories, struggling to stand as Zen helps her up, both of them crying. It's all set to an instrumental of "Don't Judge Me" practically engineered to tug on heartstrings.
  • The usage of Claude Debussy's "Clair de lune" at the end of "Say You'll Go" can tug at the heartstrings as well. The same goes for the ending of "BabopbyeYa" - the whole song, really, but especially the ending.
  • "Oh, Maker" also can get this way; it's probably one of Janelle's most emotional vocal performances.
  • Strangely, "Smile" can also qualify if you're in a particular mood.
