  • According to Izuku, drawing attention to the quirkless for any reason just makes things worse for them, even if it's All Might starting a charity specifically for them. A few years back, a quirkless group had organized a parade, only for someone with a fire quirk to burn the entire thing down, destroying all the floats, injuring dozens, and killing two. Instead, he advises All Might to just make anonymous donations and mentions that a donation to basically any homeless shelter will help quirkless people.
  • Mitsuki's flashback to her utter terror at the idea her son was being murdered. Her biggest fear is that she won't see him saved and will instead only arrive in time to identify his body. Despite that, she still can't bring herself to actually get out of the car.
  • Mitsuki spent all of elementary and middle school being bullied by another girl, with nobody ever taking her side. It was bad enough that not only did she come very close to killing herself, but Mitsuki quietly admitted that she cried until she passed out upon hearing her bully would be attending the same high school as her. It was pure luck that said bully ran afoul of Inko.
  • Izuku heard so many stories about parents abandoning or abusing their quirkless children that he hid away some food and clothes along with a list of tips for surviving on the streets. When Inko found it, Izuku admitted it was for when "she got tired of him". Izuku specifically states he "broke his mother's heart that day".
  • Inko had a little brother named Izumo who, despite her efforts, was friendless and bullied by his peers and neglected by their parents. When he was ten, he hung himself.
    • In middle school, Inko's classmates walked all over her, her teachers blamed her for other people not doing their work, her brother completely closed himself off from her, and she eventually realized she was working herself to complete exhaustion. Right as she tries once more to reconnect with her little brother, Inko instead discovers his body after he committed suicide.
    • In college, Inko continues to look out for potential bullies, leading to Hisashi pointing out that kids would be more mature at that age than when they were in school. When he asks her why she was trying so hard and piling so much stress on herself, Inko breaks down, insisting that if she didn't do this, she would never be able to face her brother. This leads to a heartwarming moment when Inko finally tells Hisashi the full story of herself and her brother. When she starts blaming herself for his suicide, Hisashi comforts her and assures her that it wasn't her fault and Izumo would understand, and that she has to start living for herself now. It's also the moment that Inko realizes that she loves Hisashi and that "there’s no one else for her but this man".
  • Hisashi's parents went from relatively happy to near constant screaming matches seemingly overnight. He couldn't defend one without being screamed at by the other and when they finally divorced, neither wanted him. His father want to "start over entirely" without anything from his previous life, including his teenage son. His mother decided to move across the country and argued that she "shouldn't uproot her son when he only has two years of high school left". The judge was so disgusted by both that she ordered Hisashi's parents to pay for his own apartment along with food and living expenses.
  • When Izuku was in middle school, the bullying he endured got so bad that when he came home one day, Inko swore he looked exactly like her little brother not long before he killed himself.
  • In high school, Mitsuki realizes someone snuck a bouquet of flowers into her desk on Valentine's Day. While she's certain they're not for her, she's still giddy for whichever girl they're meant for, until she sees they're Red Spider Lilies and realizes they're definitely meant for her.
