There are some wounds that can never be healed

Despite the absurdity and wackiness elements in the comic, WEE !!! is surprisingly able to handle the heavy tearjerking topic very well.

  • Amu's house life and her past. Her parents have been divorced since her childhood due to her father being way too focused on his career as an artist, to the point she barely remembers anything about him. This results in her mother despising his career as an artist and forbidding Amu to be a comic artist because she doesn't want Amu to end up like her father. When she was in 3rd grade of junior high school, she was stalked by someone and suffered sexual harassment from the stalker before Sho saves her life. This traumatizes her so much that she is unable to go to school for 4 months and becomes paranoid about the person who she suspects followed her from back.
  • Upi comes from a middle-class family which suffers from financial issues. Her parents constantly argue due to lack of money and are always chased by debt collectors due to their inability to pay the debt. This resulting on Upi hating herself and her family's financial condition and desperately trying to find something that can help her family to get extra money and pay her tuition fee.
  • Despite coming from an extremely wealthy family, Toro is always calm and solemn due to his coping mechanism over his mother being unable to remember her own son. In his story, Toro says that his mother began to lose her memory after an accident. Initially she believes her son is still a young boy, sometimes remembering him and sometime not. Then when Toro becomes a teenager, she completely loses her memory of him and begins thinking that he is a stranger.
  • Kiki has two loving parents. When he was in the 1st grade in junior high school, his mother died in a car accident while with him. She was badly injured and Kiki who also suffered bad injuries, including a broken arm. He was forced to ride a motorcycle to try to save her life but was unable to do so. Despite his father reassuring Kiki that it was not his fault and that he tried hard, Kiki still blames himself for her death.
  • Sho comes from a dysfunctional family. He spent his entire childhood being unkempt and beaten by his father. It is shown that his mother was also badly battered due to the abuse, resulting in her running away from the house while sobbing and making an empty promise to him that she would back and take him too. When his father is imprisoned, Sho is taken by his uncle, who was a street thug and was later ended up being imprisoned due to his criminal activities. This left Sho alone with his pet dog in his house, feeding himself by becoming a pickpocket.
