Tear Jerker / Trolls Band Together

Go To

  • The first few minutes of the movie shows Branch’s and his brothers’ past. Branch’s brothers were so argumentative and didn’t really agree on anything, that they felt the need to leave each other, not even considering the major impact that might have had on each other.
    • Floyd’s last hug with Branch before leaving him is arguably one of the top saddest things that happens in the movie. And poor innocent and slightly naive Baby Branch was left with an inch of hope that his brothers would come back soon. 20 years later, they never did.
    Baby Branch: Bye…see you later.
    • As someone pointed out, John Dory's last words to the band, and by proxy Branch, was "Goodbye Forever". In Trolls: Holiday in Harmony Branch has an imagine spot where if he thought he gave Poppy a gift too small or too big, she would leave him saying "Goodbye Forever". What seemed like a funny moment of Branch overthinking things as usual turns out to be Harsher in Hindsight because everyone he loves seems to leave him.
    • Floyd’s part in this scene is absolutely heartbreaking. It’s true that Floyd always tries to be the bigger person when it comes his brothers quarrels, but when it came to him leaving Branch, he really isn’t that much better than them. And depending on how you interpret the look on his face when departing from Branch, he knows it.
  • It's a bit heartbreaking seeing Viva try to chase after Poppy and the band. She just got her sister back and now she wants to leave, but once they break out, she loses both her sister and Clay. She gets to the open gate and runs through it, but backtracks inside the gates. Viva's so traumatized with the outside world, that she can't even chase after her sister and the bros to protect them. And Poppy is understandably heartbroken, but understands her newly found sister's point of view leaving her scrapbook in hopes that it will help Viva get over her fears.
  • Branch has a second falling out with his brothers when he learns they're fully prepared to go their separate ways after rescuing Floyd. He calls them out on still treating him like a baby while also being dismissive of the idea of being together as a family, as he hasn't been a baby since they left and he had to go on without anyone looking after him after Grandma Rosiepuff got eaten. Poppy sees the picture he drew of where he wanted to live when they reunited and learn it's his bunker. He built it based on the dream of his family being happily reunited. When she goes to be with him after he runs off, he lashes asking if she's going to leave him like everyone else in his life that cares about him.
Branch: Oh, I'm sorry. Is that funny to you? That I might want us to be a family again? Tiny Diamond, pull over now.
Bruce: (scoffs) Don't be a baby, Branch.
Branch: You're mad at him, but you guys do the exact same thing to me. You all still treat me like the baby of the family, but guess what, I stopped being the baby the day you guys walked out on me. 'Cause I had to. Then Grandma got eaten, and there was no one else to take care of me. This time, I'm walking out on you.
    • Not to mention the scene that happens before Branch’s lashing out. John Dory, Bruce, and Clay all have a falling out with each other for John Dory’s bossiness. As they argue, Branch backs away momentarily, with frightened eyes, reverting back to his old role as the youngest who had no say in the argument. And after Branch realizes they won’t stick together, John Dory mocks him for his, albeit somewhat naive outlook, on them staying with each other. This ultimately, while unintentionally, deeply hurts Branch’s feelings, and makes him loose almost all hope in him and his brothers’ relationship to work out.
    • After all agreeing to leave after they rescue Floyd, and Branch calls them out for their selfishness and reveals just how alone he was throughout the years, John Dory, Bruce, and Clay discover that Branch has been waiting for them all these years, and they were the main reason why he built his bunker in the first place. They can all only stand there, feeling nothing but guilt for hurting their little brother.
    • As stated above, Branch in his anger and poor emotional state lashes out at Poppy, and she's taken aback at what he said to her. She had probably never realized how truly lonely this grumpy and cynical troll was after losing everyone he loved up until she came into his life. She fortunately understood what he needed to hear backed by her desire to stay by his side much like how he was by her side during their previous adventures.
  • After breaking Floyd out with their Perfect Family Harmony, the remaining color fades out of him. His brothers rush towards him in hopes that he still has life in him, they don't want to lose their brother again. Even Poppy and Viva look on with worry. Fortunately, his colors are slowly restored and BroZone is finally reunited.
