Sure, the lovebird protagonists are allowed to live and nurture their relationship past the fateful first trial, but this story still has the same 16 students trapped in the same Killing Game. That means there are still murders and executions, so expect a steady diet of despair.
- Everyone is crushed when Tenko is exposed as the culprit of the second case, especially considering the circumstances of why she committed murder, but Himiko is hit harder than anyone else. It's especially heartbreaking for Himiko because Tenko defiantly holds out against Kaede's arguments. Eventually, Himiko breaks down, and gives the decisive testimony to force Tenko to confess, because she wants to believe in Tenko again.
- In chapter 52, Kaito succumbs to his illness and dies. What's worse for the other students is that there was nothing they could do to help him with his illness nor did Kaito even say anything about it. While they do hold a funeral to pay their respects for the fallen astronaut, everyone is left in a depressed state and left to their grief.
