- Anytime Dís brings up Kíli and Fíli. Despite her strength and optimism, it's obvious she still grieves the loss of her sons and that thinking about the time she had with them is bittersweet for her.
- Emma's attempt at drowning herself. After being beaten and sexually assaulted by Frederick, she escapes from the house and begins walking towards Erebor, with only her brother's ragdoll in her possession. However, her initial determination soon gives way to despair; she knows that Frederick will never stop coming after her as she's legally his wife and she has nowhere else to go. She feels so trapped that she impulsively thinks drowning herself is the only way out.
- Emma crying as she scrubs her own mother's blood off the kitchen floor, shortly after finding out her father murdered her. She especially regrets that the last time she saw Kate, she'd pushed her away after finding out she was a prostitute, then had to rush off to try and avoid being taken by Frederick, and so she Never Got to Say Goodbye.
