Tear Jerker / The Innocents

• A small moment is when Miss Giddens gets sent a picture of her family. Flora asks if she's in the picture, and Miss Giddens (a little callously) says, "How could you be? It's of my family", and the girl looks so put out.
• Miles's Brutal Honesty that he knows his uncle has no time for him and doesn't want to be bothered with them. Miss Giddens tries to rationalise it, but knows he's right. She can only assure him that she'll give him her time and care for him. It's the only time in the film we see Miles crying.
• Flora being confronted about Miss Jessel's ghost, and screaming that she can't see her. Either she's in denial about everything or she's terrified that Miss Giddens has gone mad. She's still screaming what seems like hours later, and leaves Bly an Emotionless Girl.
• If she isn't completely mad, Miss Giddens's desperate speech to Mrs Grose about how all she wants to do is save the children from whatever's hurting them. Whether the ghosts are real or not, Miss Giddens is a Well-Intentioned Extremist at worst.
• To say nothing of Miss Giddens's reaction to Miles's death. A Skyward Scream as she realises that, ghost or not, her actions got a child killed. And all she wanted to do was help him.
