General

    In General
  • Every victim, who suffered from Demonic Possession. They were initially girls, who led normal lives until they showed signs of possessions, which caused them to be shunned from their families, friends, and/or other people whom they were close to. Before Cid accidentally found the cure, their only fate was to die at the hands of the church or become experiments of the Cult of Diablos.

    Volume 1
  • Cid's reaction to the Seven Shadows leaving him. To him, they were probably his first genuine friends that ever played with fantasies but now, in his mind, they've finally grown up and were getting tired of the charade. In a brief moment, we see actual sadness on Cid's face.
  • Grease joined the cult to cure his daughter, but ended up swallowed into the darkness of the conspiracy while under the belief that his daughter had died. While in reality, she is still alive, but as a test subject heavily mutated by the cult's experiments. Even sadder is the fact that Millia still has enough sanity to remember him, which causes her to keep clinging to the sword he gave her. She was then experimented on one last time and goes on a rampage throughout the city. Attacked by Iris and the knights, who only prolong her suffering due to lacking the strength needed to kill her, Alpha mercy kills her by cleaving her in half, while hoping that Millia can find some peace in the afterlife.
  • Poor Sherry. She not only lost her mother when she was very young, but also her beloved foster father who was killed by Shadow. Now, she swears vengeance on Shadow and is researching ways to kill him. The pure irony of it all is that her foster father was the one that murdered her mother and Shadow did her a favor by killing the bastard.
    • It's implied that Shadow killed the foster father to avenge Sherry's mother. When Sherry witnessed the deed, Shadow chose to let her believed her foster father was innocent, not wanting to tell her of his true nature and destroyed what was left of the poor girl's innocence.

    Volume 2
  • Rose's life heads into a downward spiral. She was once the princess of the Oriana Kingdom and Midgar Academy's finest spellsword and student council president until she found herself caught in a conspiracy that led her to kill her brainwashed father in order to protect her kingdom and Midgar. Now branded a criminal, she had no choice but to join Shadow Garden, separating herself from the boy she loves. When she ends up in the Shadow Garden training compound, she's forcibly stripped naked by Lambda and has all her personal belongings destroyed, including the wrapper from the burger she received from Cid before going MIA, the last thread connecting them, her soul-crushing wails would've haunted viewers if it was the last scene of the anime.

    Volume 3
  • Elisabeth's story. She was one of the few Vampires to wish to sway her people from their destructive lifestyles and when she it seemed she finally succeeded, Crimson sabotaged it all by forcing her to go on a rampage and killing many of her followers in the process. By the time she regained her sanity, Elisabeth was so filled with guilt that she took her own life. Unfortunately for her, she failed and Crimson retrieved her to use her for his schemes once more.
  • Alpha takes on a mission to avenge Delta, but when she meets the supposed murderer, she realizes in horror that Delta's killer was her beloved master, Shadow. After learning what Shadow's intentions were, it feels like her new life is about to be turned upside down once more as she believes that she and Shadow Garden are going to be abandoned. She tries to fight her master to prove that she and her friends are still useful to him but she lost. Alpha returns to everyone, completely broken.
  • As their counterfeit schemes are nearly finished, Yukime reveals to John Smith her backstory, that she was a village girl, with a loving mother and loving fiancée, Gettan. Then, tragedy happened when Gettan betrayed her by murdering Yukime's mother and her entire village. Yukime's scars were the result of Gettan trying to force her to join him.

    Volume 4
  • When the Cult had her mother as a hostage, Rose chose to abandon Shadow Garden, leaving her teammates, 664 and 665 to fend off against an unrelenting army of cultists. It's only later that Shadow comes to Rose and shows her that her mother was actually in league with the Cult the whole time, even helping them in brainwashing her father. Rose could only collapse in shock and is under the belief that she has nothing left but Cid since she killed her own father, her country hates her, she has betrayed Shadow Garden, and finally, her mother has betrayed her.
  • Unbeknownst to Rose, 664 and 665 desperately pleaded to Shadow to spare Rose. Despite Rose betraying them, the two still saw Rose as their comrade, 666, and were genuinely heartbroken when they believed that Shadow would execute Rose himself.
  • While the audience knows the ring Rose wears was an artifact Cid stole from Perv, she only sees it as a cherished gift from her beloved and once it is destroyed along with the Black Rose, she essentially believes that it was a sign of ill omen and that Cid died.
  • In the second half of the volume, we learned what happened to Earth and it became an apocalyptic wasteland where monsters ravaged what's left of humanity. In a shocking turn of events, Cid's former classmate, Akane Nishino became one of Earth's heroes in fighting off the monsters but her Mad Scientist brother injected her with monster blood and transformed her into a monster herself. She destroyed the last refuge to humanity, causing her to have unfathomable amounts of guilt and self-loathing.
  • Akane never forgot about Cid, when he was Minoru Kagenou. She never stopped praying for him to return, even keeping the school clothes he wore when he got run over by that truck. If Minoru had been around, there's a chance he could have stopped Akane from going on a rampage.

    Volume 5
  • Zeta, full stop. She witnesses her entire family and clan getting killed by the Cult of Diablos especially from Petos, who does the atrocity in hopes of promotion into the Knights of Rounds. This left her with a massive hatred against the cult even amongst all Shadow Garden members.
  • Alexia has to deal with the fact that her sister won't help her fight against the cult due to being gaslit by a mole in the Crimson Order that the cult doesn't exist and that Shadow Garden is the only enemy. This is after she has to deal with Rose going MIA and thus is essentially alone in her crusade.

    Volume 6
  • Kanade and Christina have to deal with the fact that Eliza not only was acquitted of her crime, but that they are now also assassination targets from the Thirteen Night Swords. It's especially hard for Christina since her protection of Kanade is done willingly on her part, but she is powerless against the Night Swords with even her father giving them permission to kill her so his household can survive.
  • Alexia has her world shaken when she discovers that not only that her father know about Shadow Garden and the Cult of Diablos, but he was actually willing to let the Cult kidnap her back in Volume 1 to keep his kingdom safe. Not to mention the fact he arranges the situation so that she and Iris will be on opposite sides in the conflict so that the royal bloodline will continue regardless of the outcome between the cult and Shadow Garden.
  • Delta's backstory with her mother, who due to her sickness is unable to hunt with Delta only hunting in secret so she won't have to leave her mother. Even sadder is the fact that her brothers continuously mistreat her and continue to insult their mother for being weak. Once her mother succumbs to her illness, Delta's mindset has already warped to the point she fully accepts the "eat or be eaten" rule and kills her brothers.
