Tear Jerker / The Conversion Bureau: Not Alone

Go To

  • The entirety of the chapter titled "He's Dead", where Andrew describes how his friend Eddy was essentially replaced by a "smiling zombie with wings". It really illustrates just how heartbreaking and horrifying it would be to see your friend completely change, both physically and mentally, like that.
  • The PER successfully spikes some sodas with ponification potion, turning a bunch of unsuspecting victims into newfoals. One of those victims is a little boy who was eventually rounded up by the authorities. His mother is interviewed for a news story:
"I tried to tell myself otherwise, but this pony wasn't my boy. He came from my boy, he thought he was my boy, but he wasn't my boy. My boy's gone. [...] The police came to the door, and I tried to say something, but all I could do was cry. The last thing he said before they shut the squad car door was 'Mom, what did I do? Why don't you love me anymore?' I'll never forget the look he gave me."
  • The stuff with Eddy/Thunderhead is made even worse in the chapter "Judgment Day": Eddy's ex-girlfriend Karen shows everyone videos of how Eddy was as a human contrasted to how he acts now as Thunderhead. Thunderhead is reduced to tears as he insists he's still the same person, but Karen can only venomously hiss that he's not.
  • In "Aftermath, Part 1", Andrew, upon learning exactly how the potion works, is forced to lie to Thunderhead to make amends. It's the first time Thunderhead's been happy since his "birth", and it's not even true.
  • In "Aftermath, Part 2"
    • Shining Armor lost both of his hind legs during the Battle of South Africa and is recuperating in the hospital. Cadence and Twilight (who's an utter wreck and blames herself for his condition) come to visit him. He reassures them both that he's fine and everything will work out okay. After they leave several hours later, the positive front he's put up falls apart and he breaks down crying.
    • Lyra, Cheerilee, and Mayor Mare have been run out of Ponyville for having founded the Equestrians For Humans and have relocated to Fillydelphia. They're struggling to stay afloat (Cheerilee in particular is having a hard time finding a new job), though they don't regret standing up for the right thing.
