Since Revenge of the Sith ends with Palpatine successfully creating his Galactic Empire, turning Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader and nearly exterminating all of the Jedi Knights, it is very obvious that there will be loads of heart-destroying moments.

*** Compounding this is how Obi-Wan actually fails to understand Anakin's own turmoil and congratulates him for killing Count Dooku despite the act being something that haunts him. * Padmé's funeral is completely silent, with the Naboo and the Gungans gathered together to honor her memory. Everyone who cared about her--including her parents, the current Queen Apailana, Boss Nass, Jar Jar Binks, and her handmaidens--feel their own kind of grief.

* In its own way, Dooku's death at the hands of Anakin. Despite being very much an AssholeVictim for what he has done, Dooku is killed not just in combat but he is also killed by being betrayed by Palpatine as he urges Anakin to kill the now unarmed and defenseless Count, who has a minor breakdown of his own when he puts two and two together and realizes he was only a pawn to Darth Sidious from the start. On the other hand, Anakin visibly struggles to not decapitate the now powerless Sith Lord as he tries to remain true to the Jedi Code; and when he does, it's notable that he remains shaken from the experience even days after.

** In the novelization, Dooku begs Palpatine to help him when Anakin has him (literally) disarmed and at double-bladepoint. WordOfGod says that this was originally meant to be in the movie as well, but Creator/ChristopherLee objected, as it would be too undignified. Not that it's at all effective. That was the moment when Dooku, at mere seconds from death, realized that everything he has done or accomplished, all his talent and power and intellect, has been used by Sidious to fulfill his plans with no regard for Dooku's wishes. Even worse, he realizes Sidious had always planned to kill and replace him. After all, "Treachery is the way of the Sith."

** What's also sad about it is that Obi-Wan just sits during the scene and does nothing to stand up for Anakin nor to question the Jedi Council's decision to deny the rank of Jedi Master. Anakin's own mentor and best friend said and did absolutely nothing to stand up for Anakin being denied of the rank of Jedi Master despite his previous accomplishments in Clone Wars.

* At the spaceport before Obi-Wan leaves to pursue Grievous, Anakin admits he hasn't appreciated Obi-Wan's training and is dearly forgiven for it. The next time they meet, they're mortal enemies fighting each other in the galaxy's own living hell.
* In a very odd way, Grievous' demise. Yes, he absolutely deserved it but after two animated series of fighting, slashing and hamming his way into becoming one of Star Wars' most iconic villains, seeing the fierce general devolve into a thrashing, roaring animal before being blown apart feels like a bittersweet goodbye. No matter the canon, Grievous was doomed to die and be forgotten, another tool in Palpatine's long game.
