Tear Jerker / Resurrection: Ertuğrul

Go To

  • Practically any major character death will count as this, but especially Suleyman Shah in season 1, and Halime Hatun in season 4, both major enough to get episodes to themselves (At least on Netflix, though only because Divided for Publication is at play here).

  • The moment that Ertugrul decides to split up part of his tribe as he prepares to migrate toward the end of the second season, leaving his brother Gundogdu behind, would surely call for a couple of tissues. This becomes so worrying that Hayme Ana (Originally wanting to stay behind with Gundogdu) is brought to tears and decides to exit the Kayi marquee in order to join Ertugrul’s migration.
  • Yegit's death; after being kidnapped, forced to pretend to lead an insurrection, then get secret message out to be reunited with his best friend and sister, and to meet his new nephew—-he gets killed in a minor skirmish. Of course, given his royal blood, had he lived he would constantly be in danger of getting forced to play figurehead leader to one inssurection or another. Other than die, his only alternative would be to turn Christian and enter a monastary.
  • Earlier that season, the Kayi and Dodurga clans come across a pile of soot in the Karavansary pavilion with Ertugrul’s ring lying in the rubble, leading them to believe the Mongols burned the Kayi bey alive. Even though Ertugrul turns out to be all right (Albeit with a weakened hand), it’s a pretty depressing scene regardless.
    • A similar event occurs following a brutal ambush staged by Tekfur Ares that leads to the Kayi alps either getting seriously wounded or killed outright at the end of season 3. The following season commences with the Kayis gathering the victims and searching for Ertugrul hours on end until they come across a burned corpse that they believe is his, leading to a similar situation to the season 2 example. To hammer in the pathos, the audience is treated to Halime removing Aktogali’s (Ertugrul’s steed) reins and saddle before sending him off into the wild, convinced that Ertugrul won’t be returning anytime soon. At least Ertugrul is ok once again, returning to the tribe once he gets the chance, but again, the events are still extremely heart-rending.
