Tear Jerker / Real Life Comics

• In the second dimension-hopping arc, genderflipped Mae (this was before Mae came out as trans) reveals that her Liz died a while back. Both prime Mae and Liz are saddened to hear this.
• The final page of "Epiphany" Maelyn's 'coming out to herself as trans arc' in which her Id (or her inner true self - Maelyn) convinces her Ego (the filter which her psyche has constructed to help her navigate the world - including the still male presenting part of herself) to let go and become deconstructed to allow her to move forward and transition. Maelyn's Ego (who has the 'male appearing' character design she had used for most the comics run) fades away with the words "Thanks, Mae. Make us proud." ^note As well as an outpouring of fans mentioning the comic moving them to tears on social media, Maelyn Dean the author herself described in a Twitter thread how writing the above scene brought her to tears.
  By the time I got to this script, it was ~2 AM, the plane was pitch dark, and Liz was sleeping on the seat next to me.
  And as I wrote the final line... I completely broke down sobbing. I had no control - it was like typing the period blew up the dam holding everything back.
  I reached over for Liz' hand, waking her up (I feel bad about that in retrospect) because I just needed to feel a comforting touch. She asked me what was wrong, and all I could think to say was "I just broke my own heart."
  This was a character I've lived with and grown over (at that time) 18 years, and DESPITE the fact that she is now starting a new journey and is the same person, there was still a small part of me that felt like I was killing off Greg.
  Symbolically, I think I was. It was more of a passing of the torch in my mind, but there's no ambiguity - the Ego, the creation "Greg", is gone, having given way to Mae. There will be a new ego crafted over time, but kind of like the Doctor, the person who goes on is different.
• The September-October 2021 arc has Dave having a fight with Tony when the latter refers to his best friend as a "minion" and wants him to come up with ideas for wacky shenanigans involving science fiction. Dave at first tries to decline Dave-style — giving Tony a rushed drawing of a middle finger. Then he seriously talks about the fact that doing a Zany Scheme with Tony isn't fun anymore because when Tony was joking that he was evil, it was one thing. Tony does, however, have a body count and a lack of regard for his friends' daily lives. He's calling himself a God and has the power to rewrite reality, which he could use for good. How can a gamer-engineer that wants to be normal be friends with an egotistical megalomaniac? Tony deflects by pointing out their hometown may as well be Nazareth, but you can tell he's in denial.
