Tear Jerker / NEO: The World Ends with You

  • As loathsome as Motoi turns out to be, it's hard not to feel bad for him in the end as he's erased. While he did attempt to become a Reaper to save himself, thereby leaving his teammates high and dry, it turns out to be All for Nothing thanks to Kubo casting him aside, leaving him utterly alone in his final day alive and ashamed at having let his fan Rindo down. It's especially sad seeing him say goodbye to Rindo on Week 2 Day 6 with a resigned "See you on the other side," as well as watching him try to make amends for his manipulations by helping the Wicked Twisters defeat the Ruinbringers, only for him to be erased in the end.
  • Fret’s reaction to Kanon’s death. Not only does Fret lose someone he had feelings for, he also reveals that he acts the way he does because of not being able to help a friend with their problems and that friend being implied to have taken his own life. It is heartbreaking to see someone as nice and friendly as him break down.
  • One of Neku’s quotes before a battle starts is “The fighting never ends”, if the players needed a reminder that Neku has been stuck in the UG for three years.
  • Shoka revealing that she’s Swallow right before her second death in Rindo’s second attempt at the Final Day. Rindo finally finds out who his best friend is, learns that Shoka wasn’t who he thought she was initially and has to watch her die again.
  • Rindo being the only member of the Wicked Twisters to survive the second attack from Soul Pulvis and not being able to Time Travel because his Player Pin was destroyed by Kubo. Not only does Rindo lose his closest friend in Swallow, who turned out to be Shoka, he also finally realizes that his friends were what made his life feel special. Thankfully, Haz fixes his Pin and gives Rindo a chance to fix his mistake again.
  • Shiba revealing that Shoka will get erased at the end of the Game because of the rule for Shinjuku Reapers that Shinjuku Reapers need to stay Reapers by the end of the Game, or they get erased. Both Shoka and Rindo are distraught that they won’t be able to see each other anymore because Shoka is unwilling to keep being a Reaper. It’s doubly sad that Shoka was willing to take the secret that she’s Swallow to the grave, possibly to spare Rindo the heartbreak. It looks like Shoka is ready to accept her fate as she tells Rindo that he was a pretty good partner and Rindo thinks so too, looking horrified and frightened, the second before Joshua steps in. According to the Secret Reports, Shoka was about to meet her fate had Joshua not showed up to revive her.
  • One sidequest has the Wicked Twisters meet and dive into the mind of one of the Purehearts' friends, who's still grieving over his untimely passing. To make matters worse, that individual gets erased at the end of the week.
  • Shoka having to fight and erase Ayano as a consequence of joining the Wicked Twisters. While Replaying the scenario, you get a sense for the kind of relationship the two had, but you can't use Rindo's powers to save Ayano- you can only help Shoka come to the realization that she has to fight her former friend to the death.
  • The Wicked Twisters don't take it well when they see echoes of people they used to know- Ayano, Motoi and Kanon- late in the third week, and end up having to kill them all over again.
