Seeing the constant quarrels between Jacob and Monica can be hard to watch, a sign of their deteriorating marriage. It doesn't help David and Anne has to witness these, to the point throwing paper airplanes begging them to stop fighting and running away afterwards. In just their first night in the farm.
Their decision to ultimately separate, as both of them agree that they can't be with each other at their worst.
Soon-ja accidentally starts an uncontrollable fire when burning garbage, which spreads to the barn where Jacob stores his produce.Knowing the damage she has caused and being unable to stop it after a stroke limits her movements, she starts to walk away from the house in a daze.
Later, David and Anne notice her walking away and beg her to stay with them. A testament that David, who initially was disrespectful to Soon-ja, has now accepted her as his grandmother.
Jacob, who is hellbent on his farm thriving, rushes over to save as much produce as he can. Monica, who has been upset at Jacob for his selfishness and him caring more about his farm than his family, also rushes over to help Jacob. However, both are unable to save everything and they decide to save each other in the end.
