- The tragedy of Gwenda Vaughan from Ordeal by Innocence, one of the most sympathetic characters in this adaptation, portrayed soulfully by Juliet Stevenson. Over the course of the episode she goes from being a radiantly happy and loving bride-to-be to having her wedding unceremoniously cancelled on the very eve of it, having her fiancé and his entire family turn on her and ostracise her, and finally being brutally murdered while forlornly sitting at the mirror at night trying on her veil for the wedding that was no longer to be (with the heavy implication that she had been Driven to Suicide). This stings even more considering that her counterpart from the original novel survived and got her happy ending, while Philip Durrant, the character she replaced as the second murder victim, is altogether much more unpleasant and less sympathetic than his novel counterpart was.
