Tear Jerker / Man of Medan

Go To

In a cinematic game where Anyone Can Die, there's bound to be some emotional tear-jerking moments.

  • In the prologue, the Decoy Protagonist pair of Charlie and Joe have this. Their final moments are seen in full display, either getting callously murdered via gunshotnote  or knifed to the gutnote . Or, if they kill their attacker, you watch them clutch their chests and have heart attacks, dying in abject fear.
    • Joe mentions that he has a son and has a photo of him next to his bed. Due to Joe's horrifying death on that ship, the poor kid never gets to see his father again. Even worse - apparently, the truth behind the ship was hidden from the general public. Did Joe's son think his father just abandoned him one day?
      • Even worse - according to the Curators Cut, Joe and Charlie kill each other. Joe shoots Charlie to death and Charlie stabs him.
  • In general, coming across the soldier's fear struck corpses is pretty awful for them.
  • When Julia is going through the engine room, earlier decisions can make her come across her brother's corpse. She completely breaks down.
  • Early in the game, Julia can surface before decompression because she sees an explosion and is scared her brother Conrad is hurtnote . If this choice is taken and she later drinks beer, Julia will suffer decompression sickness, have a heart attack, and die. For added despair, she can die in her boyfriend or her brother's arms. Conrad’s reaction is especially heart-wrenching because he was the one who suggested she drink beer despite Alex’s warning not to.
  • If the Duke of Milan's distributor cap is broken, or Conrad doesn't get the Coast Guard, the group is stuck waiting for death on the ship. If they're still alive, Fliss will decide to take the Duke and drift in the hopes of catching a current, Alex will decide to go back into the ship to look for food, and the remainder of the group will side with whoever they have the higher relationship with. (If Junior makes it to this point, he will always side with Fliss.) As the story ends, anyone on the ship has gone hopelessly insane, while the Duke is just stuck at sea as everyone slowly dies.
