Tear Jerker / Invasion! (2016)

Go To

    The Flash
  • Barry telling everyone how he changed the timeline with his actions...which means Digg has to learn he should have had a daughter and not a son and is naturally rocked.
  • Barry finally finds out that Snart was killed in the fight against Vandal Savage and the Time Masters.
  • It's unclear whether it's a result of Flashpoint or the events on Legends, but this episode reveals that the woman Stein has been seeing in his visions is his daughter Lily, who is now an adult; apparently they love each other very much. Except he can't remember any of it.
    • Lily's reaction to Martin rushing away after just meeting is heart-breaking. From her perspective in the current timeline, she hasn't seen Martin for a good number of months. Immediately after "reuniting" with him, Martin begins to freak out and leave while his daughter has no idea what's going on. She is visibly heartbroken by this.

    Arrow
  • This entire episode is just a tearjerker for Oliver as he is placed in a world where he finally has everything he wants and is actually happy only to slowly figure out that none of it is real; Malcolm is evil, Tommy is dead, his parents are dead, Laurel is dead — it's like watching his personal heaven slowly turning into his personal hell. He even briefly tries to throw himself fully into the reality by asking Laurel to marry him right now and showing how much he does love Laurel. When he confronts his parents who also try to convince him that this is his life he tearfully tells them both it's not and can only hug his mother and father tightly knowing he must leave.
    • Props to Stephen Amell who really shows just how much Oliver is conflicted with leaving this seemingly perfect life and shows just how much Oliver is truly saddened to lose his parents a second time.
  • Sara realizing the world is a dream and Laurel is really dead.
  • When Sara tells Thea that the dream world isn't real, she initially refuses to leave with the others because she's too happy having her parents and Laurel alive and doesn't want to go back to the pain they've all suffered in the real world.
Thea: There's Flash and—and Supergirl and—and people with actual powers now. Whatever needs to be done, they can handle it. We—we finally have a chance to be happy. I mean, why—why can't you just for a second accept that maybe this is your reward for all of the sacrifices you have made?
  • Sara and Oliver saying their final goodbyes to Laurel.
    • Laurel begs them to stay and that they can fix whatever is wrong, but Sara tells her that "there are just some things you can't fix."
    • Oliver's is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the entire series, because it's all but stated he's using this opportunity to tell this Laurel all the things he couldn't say to his Laurel before she died: that he wasn't the good man she loved, that she always deserved better...and that he loved her too. And when he leaves, he turns around and exchanges one last Longing Look with her, making it all too obvious how desperately he wishes this was real so he could stay.
  • A smaller note but the look at Malcom Merlyn in this world is sad in its own way. It shows that, had his wife not been murdered, Malcom could truly have been a good man and loving father to Tommy and not the monster everyone knows in the real world.

    Legends of Tomorrow
  • The Dominators' proposal: they leave Earth alone if Barry gives himself up to them. And even though it's painfully clear that this won't work, given his still-lingering guilt over causing Flashpoint (which is also the reason why they're attacking), Barry is completely willing to do this.
    • What doesn't help matters is that a majority of the team is aware that how they reacted to learning about Flashpoint may have fueled his decision.
    • A minor moment, when Stein gets a message on his phone about this, he tells his daughter that "[his] friend Barry" is about to do something horrible.
  • After Cisco learns that by freeing the Dominator in 1951, he altered time for the worse when he meant to do it for the better, he finally realizes the full scope behind Barry creating Flashpoint.
  • Stein has a hard time coping with the fact that he has a daughter now due to altering the timeline, viewing her less as a person and more as a mistake in the timeline that needs to be fixed.
    • And although she doesn't know the full story behind his behavior towards her, Lily is clearly being affected by this, as Caitlin points out to him, prompting him to apologize to her.
    • This one deserves special mention. Imagine everything from Lily's perspective. For nearly 30 years, she's had a loving parent raise her and help shape her into the brilliant scientist she is today—a typical sweet father-daughter relationship. And now, all of a sudden (from her perspective), he has lost every single memory he's ever had of her. This hasn't yet been revealed to her as he's been able to fool her so far, but he obviously will not be able to keep the charade forever...and if/when she learns the truth, not only will she find out that her father has no memory of her, but that she shouldn't even exist in the first place. Ouch.
