Tear Jerker / He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002)

Given this series' more serious tone, it stands to reason a lot more heart-wrenching moments do occur.

  • The Sorceress' entire character is rather sad; she's a mother to Teela, but can never tell her. And to top that off, she can't be with the father of said child since she's trapped protecting Grayskull (and it's not like she can just leave, her powers get weaker when she's away from it) and she has to stay there until a successor is found...and she seems rather reluctant to let her daughter take the burden.
  • In "Roboto's Gambit", Teela is rather dismissive to a chess player robot who wishes to help fight the current threat. However, after he undergoes a serious power upgrade and joins the battle anyway, he does a Heroic Sacrifice, saving the day. A tearful then Teela realizes she was too harsh on him, never letting him have the chance to prove himself. Luckily, Roboto is a machine and thus could be rebuilt.
  • King Grayskull's story is rather heart wrenching, especially given his battle ended with a victory...at a cost of his own life.
  • Man-At-Arms nearly succumbs to a dangerous toxin and gives a near goodbye to his tearful daughter, who is with his long-time mentor.
  • In this continuity, Orko became known to the royal family after rescuing Adam as a child. Shortly before he's returned, there's a short scene of the king and queen looking tearful and worried about their son. Becomes even more heartbreaking when you remember that She-Ra was supposed to appear on this show, meaning that Adam's parents have already gone through the grief of losing one child.
