Tear Jerker / Glass (2019)

As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

  • The state that Mr. Glass is in after years in a psychiatric ward. He has completely lost hope in his life, which is devastating after he twistedly declared that he found his purpose: to be the villain to the Overseer. Thankfully, he's just faking his worse condition.
  • Any scene where the real Kevin Wendell Crumb is brought out. He's so scared and confused about everything.
  • Joseph and David's relationship and bond being put through the wringer in general. A stand out moment is their respective reactions to Dr. Staple's therapy, which threatens to chip away at it.
  • Out of every personality living within the Horde, who's the one who ends up having an emotional breakdown during Dr. Staple's session? Patricia. Her faith in the Beast completely shatters when Staple unapologetically debunks the existence of his powers, and in a matter of minutes, the once strong and confident matriarch of the alters becomes a sobbing, heartbroken wreck.
  • The reveal that Audrey Dunn died of leukemia five years prior to the events of this movie. And with David's death at the climax, Joseph is now an orphan. Thankfully he at least appears to have formed a bond with Casey and Mrs. Price.
  • The scene of Elijah Glass as a little kid riding a teapot. Just such a rough scene to watch. Elijah wraps his sweater around the brace and places stuffed animals on either side of him to soften the bumps of the ride, but eventually it unwraps taking the animals with it, and he breaks his left arm in about six spots while his mother begs the technician to stop the ride.
  • At one point, Mr. Glass tells the Overseer that soon, many people will die due to his latest plan. The Overseer's response? A pained "Don't do this". He knows that he has already failed to save lots of innocent lives in the Eastrail 177 engineered train accident that he was the only survivor of, so we can easily see the Overseer's desperation at wanting to prevent history repeating itself. Especially when you find out that Kevin's father died in the train crash Mr. Glass engineered, and that Kevin was the same son of an abusive mother we briefly saw in Unbreakable...
  • Glass confirms that Kevin's father really died in that train, and Word of God confirmed in an issue of Total Film magazine that it was a young Kevin and his mother seen in the original movie.
  • After the Overseer escapes from his cell he finds his way to the evidence room. He retrieves his poncho, but also a small band of metal on a chain. He gently kisses Audrey's wedding ring and places it around his neck.
  • All three main characters die in the climax.
    • The Overseer is drowned in a puddle by a fake SWAT team and Joseph is helplessly throwing his anger at them. What makes it utterly heartbreaking to the audience is the seeming subversion of expectations; there’s no Dying Moment of Awesome. No big heroic speech, no last glance at loved ones. Just an old man whose greatest weakness is used against him.
    • The Overseer probably goes out the worse as, while Mr. Glass and Kevin are at least comforted by Mrs Price and Casey respectively, the Overseer dies completely alone as Clover members are holding Joseph back to keep him from intervening. And when he finally does get through all he can do is lash out at some of the members and then break down next to his father's corpse.
      • Look at how the Clover members react when Joseph lashes out. They barely resist or even restrain him for attacking. Despite them killing the Overseer, it's pretty clear that they were only doing their jobs.
      • However, in the ending, Joseph made sure the Clover Organization suffer for their actions as payback upon receiving the videos of the fight and the killings from Mr. Glass by revealing it ensuring that his father will at least be remembered and outing the Clover Organization as cold-blooded murderers.
    • The Horde is shot by a SWAT sniper after reverting back to Kevin and dies in Casey's arms. Tears pour out of Casey's eyes as she comforts the dying man she shared a bond with, as an abused person who was left broken like her and lost his sanity.
    • As Kevin dies, he senses a mutual reaction from all 24 of his personalities: they're terrified, because they know that they're about to expire with him. One by one, his most prominent alters briefly take the light to get their last words out, and it's especially heartbreaking to see Hedwig, his most likable persona and the one closest to Casey, innocently whimper that he "doesn't want to stop being nine".
      Kevin: What's happening? (Groans)
Hedwig: (Crying) I like being nine! It hurts, Casey! Get it to stop hurting-! I can't- can't hold on to the light, Casey! (Groans, Casey sobs)
Dennis: I should have never listened to her. I sh- (Groans) These pants got blood on 'em. They're ruined. We gotta clean these pants, Casey. (Groans)
Orwell: As his body slowly succumbs to the inevitable, a sensation of cold water spreads through his body. His thoughts are a mixture of fear and sweet relief. He will- (Groans)
Barry: Ladies and gentlemen, here's Patricia! We should all listen to her! We should- (Groans)
Patricia: Did you see that? They are both extraordinary! I never doubted! I- Never let them tell you I doubted it. (Groans)
Kevin: They're all so scared... But I told them that I'm gonna hold the light now... you were really my friend?
      [Casey tearfully nods]
Kevin: Then I'm gonna hold the light 'till the end... till the very end... it's not so bad being in the light.
[Kevin Wendell Crumb finally passes away, as Casey kisses him on the forehead]
      • Just the fact that all the time Dr. Fletcher spent trying to help Kevin is rendered pointless by both their deaths.
    • Mr. Glass has his ribcage fatally broken by the Beast and dies with his mother still at his side. Of course, Mr. Glass managed to make this all part of his plan from the start, completing his life's work, defeating the evil conspiracy that opposed said life's work, and revealing to the world that he was right all along. (Not right to commit all the atrocities that he committed, just right about the way the world works.)
      Elijah: I...wasn't... a mistake, mama.
Mrs. Price: No. You were spectacular.
    • Elijah's final words shown above is a poetic Meaningful Echo to one of his final lines in Unbreakable, which was "I'm not a mistake". Back then, he was struggling to find his place in the world, and the day he finally realized it turned out to be the day he died.
