All spoilers are unmarked.

  • Ann tearfully telling Anne about her past sexual assault, genuinely believing she's Defiled Forever and Anne won't want her anymore. The episode ends with Ann sobbing into Anne's shoulder while Anne holds her and tries to comfort her.
  • Anne's utter heartbreak when Ann rejects her and calls their relationship sinful, particularly when she angrily reminds Ann that she has feelings, too, clearly holding back tears.
  • Anne's line to Ann in the first season finale: "Don't hurt me. I'm not as strong as you think."
  • With Miss Walker's mental health deteriorating, Anne writes to her sister (Elizabeth Sutherland) for permission to treat with Dr. Belcombe. Elizabeth and her husband instead decide that Miss Walker will come live with them in Scotland. Miss Walker doesn't want to leave Halifax, however, so Anne proposes marriage, only to be turned down yet again. In presumably their last night in bed together, Anne tears up:
    Miss Walker: Anne?
    Anne:
    Miss Walker: Anne.
    Anne: It...
    Miss Walker: What?
    Anne: Nothing.
    Miss Walker: Anne!
Anne: I understand—why you can’t commit to me. It’s impossible, I know. How could anyone? What am I? Every day... Every day, I rise above it. The things people say. I walk into a room or down a street, and I see the way people look at me, and the things they say, and I rise above it, because... I’ve trained myself to, not to see it and hear it, until it’s become second nature to me, and I forget... just how impossible it is for someone else to accept that. But you came so close.
