Sylvia actually walks into Neverland in her home, before she dies. Then there was the ending scene just with James and Peter on the bench.
James Barrie sees his old wife right at the premiere of his new play, and despite teasing her a little, ("It was quite the scandal") one of the last things he says to her is, "I'm sorry." The delivery makes him seem genuinely sorry for neglecting his wife despite how well he got along with his new family.
